Patrol
Lincoln Elementary School Patrol
2014-2015
Description:
The role of the Junior Safety Patrol is to teach safety and model it. You are to "direct children, not traffic." You have authority over the students as they cross streets so that they do so safely. You do not have any authority over vehicular traffic on the streets.
You will be trained to keep students out of the street and on the sidewalk until there is no approaching traffic. You will wear vests and use bright red STOP signs to stop students from entering the street until it is determined it is safe to do so.
One of the two students leads the crossing with a series of verbal calls. When a gap in the traffic appears the leader calls "signs out" (both signs are extended onto the road). "Check" (Both students check that traffic is stopping/stopped). "Cross now" (students may cross safely) and finally "signs in" (Signs are withdrawn from road).
Patrol Posts:
4 at Conlin Ct. and Bliss St. (at each corner by driveway exit)
2 at Conlin Ct. (driveway entrance)
2 at crossing by front of building entrance
3 at back of building by bus drop-off (monitor and assist students)
4 at end of day to assist kindergartners out of building (after school only)
Substitute patrols for absences
*Student will need to be at morning posts at 7:20 a.m. They will come into the building from their posts at 7:40 am. Students should be at their after school posts by 2:05 p.m. and remain there until 2:15 p.m.
Expectations:
Patrol members are role models for other students. They are expected to behave appropriately, maintain academics, and attend school consistently. Therefore, the following procedures have been put in place.
Absences – Please call 815-547-3224 by 7:15 a.m. to notify Mrs. Diamond you will not be at your post. (Leave a message if she doesn’t answer.) It is important we find a replacement for you. It is understandable you may forget, but if this is a reoccurring problem you will forfeit your post.
Grades- All members are expected to have Cs or better in all subject areas. If a subject area falls below a C, you will be notified and have one week to improve the grade. If you are unable to do so, you will be removed from patrol duties.
Behavior – Because you are a role model to all students, you may not receive any ODRs (office discipline referrals). MIRs (minor incident report) are also not expected. However, 2 MIRs may be received in the school year. On the third MIR, the student will be removed from patrol.
Incentives:
For your service as a Junior Safety Patrol member at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, all remaining participants will attend the Patrol Picnic. This takes place at a park or the fairgrounds and involves a day of outside activities. There is also a raffle with many prizes.
